Casting Call

Auditions will be held Friday, December 1st from 4PM to 10PM and Saturday, December 2nd from 11:30AM to 6:30PM. Callbacks are Sunday, December 3rd. Location for both: Green Room Theatre Company office in Coachella City Hall, 1515 6th Street in downtown Coachella.

Most of the action is set in a tiny studio apartment in a big American city, where Maggie lives with her working mother. In elementary school Maggie was cruelly bullied by other kids because she could only speak Spanish. Now a high school teen, Maggie refuses to speak Spanish at all; when her grandmother comes to live with them Maggie is re-awakened to, and embarrassed by, her Hispanic roots.

Four actors of various ages are needed; adult actors are invited to audition for the teen role. All three female roles require Spanish.

Maggie: 17. Hispanic. Smart, lively, and a successful student; desperate to be accepted as American.

Elena: 30s. Maggie’s mom. Hispanic. A working mom and peacemaker.

La Abuela: 60s or older (could be played by a younger actress). Maggie’s grandmother. Hispanic. Loving, funny, and stubborn. Plays a mean game of dominos.

Eric: 17. Maggie’s friend. A well-mannered, Caucasian or African, American.

To audition, sign up for a 10-minute audition appointment. Prepare a 1 to 2 minute comedic monologue. Please arrive ten minutes before your appointment to review the production calendar and provisional contract.

Performers will receive $1600 for the initial run of weekend performances in March. Rehearsals will be on weeknights, Saturdays and Sundays excluding Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas week. Exact times and dates will be determined once actors are cast.

Actors should sign up in advance to reserve an audition slot, but walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.
